Jennie's April 1st newsletter

Dear Families,

It was wonderful to meet with families at parent conferences! If you were unable to make parent conferences please feel free to contact me for an alternative time.

The past couple of weeks have been lots of fun reading Dr. Seuss. We read The Foot Book and measured our feet using unifix cubes. We also read There’s a Wocket in my Pocket and came up with our own Dr Seuss inspired creatures to live in our classroom. We made a Smore for our door, a Wesk for the desk and a Mack for our rack(drying rack). We practiced lots of rhyming and really enjoyed our rhyming song ‘A hunting we will go’. We enjoyed making oobleck to explore in the sensory bin and also sequenced our names on ‘Cat in the Hat’ hats. We also read several other favorite Dr.Seuss books like The Cat in the Hat and Mr.Brown can Moo, Can you?

Last week we started a new unit on transportation. We started by brainstorming about what we already know about transportation. We talked about the ways we travel and came up with quite a list of vehicles! We did a group gross motor painting of a roadway. The children enjoyed squirting bottles of primary colors on the road and then driving their cars through the paint to mix new colors and paint the road. We are now working on using different shapes to construct vehicles to drive on our road. Check it out in the hallway!

The older children will begin the transition to Kindergarten process. A kindergarten teacher will be visiting our classroom this Wednesday to meet the incoming Kindergarten students. I will let you know as soon as I have the date of our visit up the hill. Please call with questions! Jennie
