Jennie's October 16th letter

Dear Families,                             October 16, 2018

Fall is here! We have been celebrating the change of season here in Preschool. The last two weeks have been full of Fall projects. We painted leaves to decorate our windows and learned the song “Autumn leaves”. We also learned about letter T and made beautiful fall T trees! We had an apple taste test and then graphed our results. Yellow apple was the winner in the M/W group and red in the T/TH!

We also focused on Pete the Cat in school. We have read Pete the Cat and his New White Shoes and Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons. We painted with shoes and imagined we were Pete walking through his piles of blueberries, strawberries and mud! We also painted shirts and decorated them with groovy buttons.

Ms. Molly, our farm to school coordinator ,came this week and introduced us to Kale! We explored kale leaves and then tore them into little bits. We learned that kale gets softer and sweeter when you tear and squish the leaves. We then made our own maple balsamic vinaigrette and topped our kale with parmesan and raisins. Many of the kids loved it!

Next Thursday is our Read with Me night led by Chrissy Wade of the Vt Humanities Council. She will be talking about social emotional learning through books. The night will taking place at the Stowe Elementary library and each family will receive 8 free books. Please sign up at the classroom. We need to give them the number of families by Friday.

The weather has been so varied! Please make sure your child has appropriate outdoor gear for whatever the weather may be!

Thanks, Jennie
