Dear Families,

The last two weeks have been such a wonderful treat! Kim and I have been getting to know new children and seeing old friends. We have been reviewing classroom expectations and working on learning how to be friends. We have started a unit on Eric Carle, so far we have read From Head to Toe, Brown Bear and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We have retold stories using felt board pieces. We have also connected art to literacy by painting caterpillars with sponges. We have been learning how use different classroom materials like markers, glue and scissors. We have explored collage, painting with different tools and cutting out shapes.

We have also been observing the life cycle of our very own hungry caterpillar! Our little friend has been very busy eating lots of milkweed. He has already shed his skin once and we hope to see him start his chrysalis soon.

We have learned about letter L. We have made L with the wooden sticks from our Handwriting without tears program, cut out and Ls and painted them with Legos and practiced making the /l/ sound and brainstormed words that start with /l/.

We will have a visit from our Farm to School coordinator Molly Gellar. This month she is focusing on apples and we will make applesauce! Each month she will visit both groups and focus on a fruit or vegetable. She will plan and activity and lesson focusing on farm and food.

Wednesday September 19 is picture day. Jay Kennedy will be here taking pictures from 10:30-11:30.
