A Message From Superintendent Tracy Wrend
Town Meeting Day is approaching, and Lamoille South Unified Union’s second official Annual Meeting is coming too! The Annual Report is available in all of the schools of LSUU, in each Town Office and online on the LSUU School Board Page under the “LSUU Board Current Projects and Studies” tab. You can also access the Annual Report directly here. The Annual Report looks a bit different from previous years as it provides information about the total budget and the implications of the budget for each of the schools of Lamoille South. For the first time ever, we have also included some data about student and school performance, as well as a link to the Agency of Education website where interested individuals can find additional information, including individual school-level performance data. We know voters want to understand the value and outcomes of the investments we are making in our students and schools, and we are working to increase transparency and access to information.
There is one more formal opportunity to learn more about the budget and ask questions at the Annual Meeting and Budget Information Meeting on Monday, March 2, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. This meeting will be held in the Copley Gymnasium at Peoples Academy. You are also welcome to email me or any board member with questions.
Voting on the proposed FY21 budget for the Lamoille South Unified Union will be held on Tuesday, March 3, at your local town office from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Early voting has started! To vote early or absentee, stop by or call your Town Clerk’s office or make your request from the links on each of the Town Clerk’s websites. Please vote!
Lamoille South Unified Union Board Brief

2020-2021 School Calendar
The school calendar for 2020-2021 is now available on our website. Two items of note: the start of school is August 24, 2020, one week earlier than the traditional start of school for our region, and spring break has been scheduled for the third week in April to align with schools across northern Vermont.
Budget op-eds have been finalized and submitted to local papers. Andy Lundeen provided an overview of the proposed $32,275,750 budget for the school year 2020-2021. This budget reflects an increase of 3.78 percent and represents no changes to existing programs. The estimated homestead tax rate impact for Elmore is a decrease of 2 cents, for Morristown an increase of 5.7 cents and for Stowe an increase of 10.9 cents. This increase is primarily due to rising health care and transportation costs, and not the merger of Elmore-Morristown and Stowe.
The LSUU Annual Report, which includes information on the proposed budget, our upcoming annual meeting and our schools may be viewed here.
Morristown resident Richard Shanley has expressed interest in being a write-in candidate for the Morristown board seat vacancy.
Voting on the FY21 budget and board membership will be held on Tuesday, March 3, at your local town office. Early voting is available.
We have locked in pricing for FY21 fuel at $1.98 per gallon. This is 30 cents lower than our current pricing ($2.28 per gallon) and it is anticipated that this per gallon price reduction could amount to cost savings of $15,000.
Policy First Read
The board completed a first read of policies on the Prevention of Employee Harassment, Security Cameras, and the Title 1 Parental Involvement Compact. The policies will be warned for adoption at our March 16 meeting.
LSUU’s E-Newsletter, including Board Briefs will be posted at https://www.lamoillesouthsu.org/blog.php the Thursday following each board meeting.
