School Opening Day Extended - September 8, 2020

A Message From Superintendent Tracy Wrend

The Governor announced today that the opening day for all schools in Vermont will be extended to September 8 to allow more time for schools to prepare with faculty.

Additionally, late last week the Secretary of Education issued a memorandum - Decision-Making for School District Operations During the 2020-2021 School Year - that delegates the authority for school district operations to Vermont’s school boards.

We have been hard at work over the last several weeks planning for the 2020-2021 school year and had recently announced that we would be planning on school opening for all or nearly all students this fall. While we remain confident that we can open the schools of LSUU with all or nearly all students in school with enhanced physical distancing measures in place, AOE’s memo now requires us to present a range of options and strategies to the LSUU Board. The Board will consider these plan options at their next meeting on Monday, August 3.

I recognize that many of you are understandably frustrated with this process and are anxious to know what the school year ahead will look like for your children. We will be working closely with the LSUU Board in the days ahead and will continue to communicate with you as things evolve.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding during these challenging times.
